I received the new issue earlier this week. I am reluctant to say that I was pretty underwhelmed. Nothing really caught my eye, it seemed a bit like looking through a Pottery Barn catalog; pleasant enough to look at, but no real value. All the homes looked overly polished, large, expensive and middle of the road dull. (I'm not saying this to be mean, I was just disappointed)
On the bright side, I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes and I enjoyed the article about the Katrina Cottages.

Darn it! I think this magazine is running about 50/50, but when they're good, they are very, very good.
Editors: Even though most of us agree that modern and cottage CAN mix well, it's not what we get excited about.

Well not in the mail today either... 8-(
Thanks for the opinion Nicole it will stave off my anxious anticipation a bit lol
 unfortunately CL is a buisness and they must be exciting a large proportion of the buying public as far as products and design style that they showcase in the designs featured or they would branch out more into the different styles of cottage design and crativity. I personally could do without the travel features in CL ohh well :p lol still looking forward to my issue just not as much :o

Has anyone else read it yet? I'm wondering if I'm the only one that felt that way.
I just finished eating lunch and flipping through the magazine. I realized that of the 4 houses featured 2 were newly built and the other 2 were gutted by the owners who were architects. I guess I just prefer to see and be inspired by the older homes of regular people.

Nicole after getting it and thumbing through it nothing caught my eye like you said so I let it sit for a couple weeks then last night I read it and skipped most articles because they were of no interest looked like the same ol same ol I did enjoy the Katrina article but that was it I doubt I'll renew just buy the ocassional issue after pre scanning in the grocery store.

OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
RaNae- I am awfully jealous that your local grocery store carries the magazine. I have to go to the bigger bookstores to find it. Its worth it just to subscribe.
I did just get the new issue of Mary Engelbreits Home Companion and I love it.

I liked the Katrina article too but felt they cut it short. Glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed by the new old houses and featuring these architects that buy and gut a home then tell us how wonderful they are. Sadly CL isn't the only publication that does that. I subscribe to Old House Interiors and even they slip them in on you. I do love ME but was pretty unimpressed this issue too. Come to think of it all my subscriptions this month have been let downs, had one proclaim on the cover "Put more color in you life" and then was about a woman's apt that she used some color but really didn't tell you how and what.
Kind of like a bad lover who gets you all hot then walks off to grab a latte or check the sports channel.:D

I couldn't agree with you more, Lucille. It just does not seem like the spirit of cottage style decorating to rip out all of the old elements from a house that lend to its character just to add shiny new "reproduction" materials. Not to mention the gallons of white paint and white slipcovers:confused: . I also agree with your Pottery Barn statement. It is just too sterile for me. Give me COLOR:D .

Amen and let me on the anti-white walls boat! Oh yes I used white paint in my house however and that is a big HOWEVER I use is as an accent. I always start to think about what is painted in my house and it always astounds me that I only have two rooms with white ceilings (to be fair I wish the ceiling in the kitchen was white, heck any color besides that green). And to be truthful I detest the white ceiling in my livingroom so much I carefully dont' look at where the ceiling meets the walls because it bothers me so much. I intend on using the same paint from the walls on the ceiling but a lighter shade. As for the laundry room I considered using the blue from the porch out there but chickened out. It is really low and higher gloss so I don't mind it so much. Give me a few months I bet I'll be out there painting it some other color. I'm a bit addicted to painting.
