What are some your best blooms in your garden? I've recently tried holly fern as I live in a shady spot and love the way it looks! Impatiens do really well for me and even come back each year. I'd like to try something new in pots on my porch. Any great ideas?

Why not plant some Impatiens in pots for your porch, too? Our deck has 10 boxes hanging from its rails. Two additional boxes sit on a two level plant stand on our screened porch. This year I decided to do 6 boxes of salmon colored Impatiens and 6 of sprengeri asparagas ferns. Some years we have them mixed in together, this is the first year to rotate. Wave petunias might do well if your porch gets enough light. They make gorgeous hanging baskets. Our fence has a flat top and we have a huge pot at the front corner where the Wave makes quite a show flowing around!
(Just realized I was not clear about the rotation, starting from the left end of the deck with Impatiens, next box the fern, and so on and on.)

I bought some Persian violets to put into two urns on either side of the front door and they are doing well along with variegated ivey and holly fern. I do have white impatiens in a large planter box. I may get some red ones too for color.

We have 2 rose bushes that have been on the property forever. In spite of my remedial gardening skills, they do well every year.
I am also quite pleased with the honeysuckle I planted last year.

Has your honeysuckle stayed contained? We have it growing wild and I would love to give it away.

Not really, it is already larger than the small piece of vintage fence I have it growing on. I'm just happy that it survived the winter and it is starting to bloom.
The rest of my garden is still pretty barren. May 15 is the magic day for planting here and the weather has stunk for the last few days. I had to run outside and save my yet-to-be-planted plants from the HAIL STORM we had yesterday!
