Greetings! I have heard and seen where folks have recycled the lumber from old barns and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a contact, website, etc. that might help my father and I turn our old barn into something new. If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure appreciate some direction!

Hi Rosalee:
I don't know of any websites specifically aimed at turning an old barn into something else. Everything I've ever seen made from old barn boards could have been made from new lumber -- the only difference is appearance.
I've seen benches and tables and corner cabinets made of old barn boards. A friend of mine cut down barn boards to manageable sizes for her mom to paint on.
I've also seen picture frames and dog houses made from old barn boards. I guess we are limited only by our imaginations. For instance, right this minute that what I would most like made out of old barn woood would be a backyard dining table (not a picnic table with those seats that are hard to get in and out of and arenever at the right height anyway, but a real table. If it is made of barn wood then inclimate weather is never a question.
Come back and tell us about your barn and any othjer ol'thing you want to chat about. Good to meet you.

A friend of mine did just that Jenny. She went around to neighbourhood farmers with dilapitated old barns and asked for the wood. Her and her hubby put together a nice table set for their back yard.

Jilliebean, that sounds like a nice side business. There is a falling down barn near my dad -- every time I pass it I want to go in an explore or finish tearing it down and make something else.
Truly, I am absolutely not at all right. :p
