Does anyone have any good references for cottage type house plans? We have recently purchased some land and want to build. We would like the cottage look. Every book and house plan website ( and I have been to all that show up in a google search) that I have been to is the same ole house plan format. We want something unique. We are looking to build around a 3000 square foot home. Help? I am desperate.
Thanks for any assistance you could give me.

Don't forget the plans right here on Cottage Living. I've been studying our most popular home plans and I'll be making some changes both in the magazine and Web site. We'll be adding more 3-4 bedroom plans in the 2,000-3000 square foot range. We're also on the lookout for creative architects and home designers working in the cottage style.

I am new to this! I hope to find help in locating cottage style plans particularly designed for sloping lots and that take advantage of using the lower level for living space, rather than building a second level above the main floor. Most plans seem ideal for relatively flat lots or that have the main living on the two upper floors. I will be very grateful if you can pass on helpful hints

Ross Chapin has a few beautiful plans that work on sloping lots. You can see his small house plans at http://www.rosschapin.com. His plans are also very affordable for such high quality work. Remember that many home designers and architects will modify plans for sloping lots.
If you buy stock plans, a local architect or architectural engineer must modify the plan to fit your site and local codes.

IK love Ross Chaplin's work. The Cottage Community they are building in WA State are amazing projects. I just wish we could do something like that here in California, its the most perfect concept.

If you are still browsing at house plans, check out www.coolhouseplans.com (http://www.coolhouseplans.com/)
There are literally thousands of plans to choose from and the site allows you to search by specific criteria like square footage, number of bedrooms, style, etc. We bought our plans from them a little over a year ago and have been very happy with them. We are building #22152 and are set to start construction a soon as the frost is out of the ground (probably end of March).
