What kind of dining room chairs do you have? Upholstered? Wood? Bench seating? Flea market finds? Painted?
We have a pretty nice dining room table but the chairs are all scrap and we are trying to figure out a low budget solution to our problem.

Right now my dining room set is borrowed from my great-grandma. The chairs are small, stained wood with a very 70's vibe to them. I have two other chairs in the room (to pull in for larger groups) that are dumpster finds. They were stained a yucky golden color and the seats were upholstered in gold shag-type upholstery. Now, they're painted creamy white, distressed with red and have red ticking stripe upholstered seats.
In my dream world I would have an upholstered banquette around a pedestal base round table...of course, in my dream world, all my projects would be completed and I'd have time (and money) to spare, so I guess my table/banquette set will have to wait.

We bought our dining room set at an auction. It is the dark mahogany stain table with leaves that will seat 12 (reminds me of Duncan Phyfe furniture), a tall hutch with a federal pendant top, and six rose-back chairs. I since have found an armchair to match. I would absolutely love to paint everything white but my DH would probably go into cardiac arrest. I have been wanting to recover the seats but haven't decided what I want yet. They are currently covered in a rose and cream stripe silk-looking fabric with tiny gold flowers that have avacodo leaves. They dont look that bad;probably why I am taking my time to cover them. As for your chairs, What about those slipcovers that cover the whole chair?

Jilliebean: I suffer from the opposite problem -- my chairs are nice, two were upholstered by me and two are vintage leather -- but my table is atrocious!
I can't justify getting a good table, no matter the cost, because of the wretched things I do there. I cut fabric, I paint products, I make messes big and often. Only twice a year does anyone actually "dine" on the dining table.
What I did for chairs, though was to pick up a pair of upholstered chairs at the flea market. I think they were formerly hotel chairs -- they were very sturdy, but dingy and sad. So I upholstered them. This is a good second phase upholstery project for someone learning.
The leather chairs came from my boyfriend's dad's office -- they are from the late 1940's to 1950's. They would have been used as guest chairs or conference chairs, like in a business office.
Maybe if I track down the conference table...

I have oak chairs with leather seats that are kind of an Arts and Crafts style. We bought them years ago at a consignment store-6 for $110. The leather is in tired shape so I just made cushions to cover that. Since we have first bought them I have managed to find 3 more just like them so we have a good set of chairs. I love them and would never get rid of them. They are marked and were made in Keene NH around 1910 according to my research.
42in round pedestal table and a set of 4 wooden mission style chairs. I stained all early american and polyurathaned. we like it.

We have a wonderful 8ft farmhouse table with huge turned legs (I love it!), but our chairs are a hodgepodge of ones that I've found here and there. The eventual plan though is to get a 10ft church pew for seating on one side of the table, have a friend make a bench for the other side and get two windsor arm chairs for each end. Alas, I'm still trying to find my church pew and we're working on the other items. Everyone's dining rooms sound sooo great! What fun!

I love my dining room chairs. They are 1960's Heywood Wakefield.

I Love that Lucille1963!! How did you know that was the design - are they marked? Reason I ask is my dd has one set similar given to her and she is wanting to put in a yard sale this spring. I have been just sick over it and if there was any way I may have to create another dining room...lol! Your colors and vintage finds look awesome. I for one would love to see more pics of your home!!!

Thanks for the compliments. The style of the set is called Cadence, it has the Heywood Wakefield Markings on the inside of the top drawers and the style number and color on the back. This is one of the least desireable HW styles in one of the least desireable colors (sable). On the bright side its solid wood, I like it and I got it for a song!
I bought my set on ebay, maybe your friend might have some luck selling it there (unless you add another dining room). :)
