Hi, I'm new here and a bit new at this sort of thing. Saw a copy of the magazine at a friends house and think it looks very interesting. Haven't used a computer much but I think this will help me in a lot of ways, not just decorating. I live in a ranch style house but I am trying to decorate it somewhat in the cottage style. I want a home that I can enjoy and still have it look nice and I think this is the way to go. What I am trying to decide is what to do with my bathroom. I have only one bath in this house and I want to add wainscotting but I'm not sure whether to or not. Does anyone have this in their bathrooms already? Also, what height should it be if I use it? Also thinking about shutters on the window, atleast half way up because it is a regular length window. Hubby doesn't have any preference, he just likes whatever. Can anyone help?

Emma,
I re-did my bath about 5 years ago. I did waisncott (painted white) and also added a pedestal sink. I love it! It's funny you mention shutters as I was just thinking of adding them to my bathroom window. I think half-way up is a good idea... let some light in! I have battenburg lace on my windows now and would leave the jabot valances and replace the tiers with shutters. I will measure how far I went up with the wainscott. I bought the wainscott at Menards (like a Home Depot or Lowes)
Good luck... you must post pics when you are finished.

Emma,
Welcome! I'm thinking of wainscotting in my bathroom too. I really like the look.

Hi Emma--Welcome!
I only wish I could have wainscotting--in any room! Every room! It's such a beautiful look. Love the idea of shutters, too. I agree with Kristen--halfway up is good. Privacy, but lots of light as well.
Good luck--and post pictures! :D

I put Wainscotting in my small bath and only did it half way up. If I were you I would put it almost all the way up. Like three quarters of the way up or even all the way and put a nice trim piece on top. The way I did my room makes It feels like I have a really short room. Good luck. K

Welcome Emma,
I'm pretty new also and I love all the ideas that have been offered. I used the beadboard in my small bathroom from floor to ceiling with a small trim piece at the top, and it's amazing the transformation. We have a free standing sink which is great because the bathroom is so small and it doesn't take up space. I just hung a picture in the window that is a French hotel sign. It is a double hung window and I hung the picture in the top part, so it allows light to filter in around the picture. I cut up a matelasse bedspread and made a simple curtain for the bottom part of the window. It sounds strange I suppose but it looks great. The bathroom is mainly white with accents of french blue and black. I think you can do just about anything with beadboard and make it look sensational. Good luck!
