I was excited to read the article on catalog homes. Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the "Little House" series of books for children, lived in a Sears home built for her and husband Almanzo by their daughter Rose Wilder Lane. In fact, the first four LH books were written there...

Their home was a Sears, Roebuck and Co. "Mitchell" -- as shown on page 20. The Wilder home was built of native Missouri rock, however; the "Rock House" is part of the Laura Ingalls Wilder / Rose Wilder Lane Home & Museum in Mansfield, Missouri, and can be toured in season.

That's very interesting. Thanks for sharing that information with us.

Hi pioneergirl - I've been through Rocky Ridge Farmhouse and the Rock House - I knew that Rose had the house built for her parents but didn't realize it was a Sears Kit House. Thanks for the info & nice to meet you. :)

I've been on those tours, too, Breezy. The first time we went, Pa's fiddle was 'out for repair' and wasn't in the museum. So, of course we had to go back~I love both houses, but the farmhouse is my favorite. I could definitely live at Rocky Ridge Farm:) .
