Get ready to unleash your imaginations and creativity...here are the particulars for our spring swap.
FRESH FOR SPRING
Send your partner:
1) Textile for the kitchen, such as a dishtowel, potholder, etc.
2) Something to revive a friendship the old-fashioned way through the mail, such as stationery, cards, writing implements, envelope embellishments, etc.
3) Something you have made. It may be either of the items above, or something else. Someone pointed out that March is Craft Month. If you don't craft, do you bake, sew, do origami, etc.?
In keeping with the "Fresh" theme, look for clear spring colors and patterns to help sweep the last of the winter blahs out the door. Easter is March 23, so you may wish to include something along that line. As always, keep your spending on the package contents to $10 or less. Thrift, regift, make, find!
Let's try to have packages to their recipients no later than April 5th. I will post swap partners on Sunday.
If you have signed up for the swap, answer these questions to help your swap partner:
What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art?
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil?
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
I rely on you to let me know if there is some detail I have forgotten, or if these are dumb ideas. Let me know...

Great job, Deb!
Here are my questions and answers:
What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? Cottage/Country style...blue/white with accents of tin. I also have a tea theme on one wall and I have new (to me) quilt style curtains (that I will put up after I freshen my paint), that have some blue/white/yellow in them.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? Since the Internet, my handwriting has gotten even more atrocious (I'm a lefty, so I will blame that...) and I don't usually hand write much any more. When I do, I usually use a black, fine roller ball pen. But I actually have a drawer full of note cards/paper that I don't use any more.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
I love chocolate, but am trying not to eat too much that's "bad" for me, but I'd be glad to sneak some goodies...Spring is coming, ya know, and so is my class reunion in October! I like salty/crunchy, no chocolate fruits (like cherries). No allergies/am easy to please. ;)

This is going to be SO much fun!!
What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen is done in red, olive green and white. It's cottagey-vintage in feel and I use a lot of red/white toile.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I love to write notes/cards and send to people. I prefer notecards over sheets of paper or postcards. I use a black pen, but doesn't matter what type, as long as it writes well.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand? I am a dark chocolate fan, but do NOT like chocolate and fruit together (chocolate cherries, etc.)
Okay, who's next?

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art?
My kitchen in very cottage-y. The walls are sage green, but the white and mahogany cabinets are such strong features that the walls really aren't noticed. No special motif.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil?
I love to write letters by hand and I have collection stationary supplies. I have an old Parker Pen set, sealing wax and a stamp, cards for every season, a custom stamp from Desiging Women... I love colorful post its, folders, I have a pencil cup full of pencils made from sticks... My favorite stores in Japan were the stationary stores!
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
I prefer savory stuff; I'm not into the super sweet. But pretty much love everything.

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen and dining room is red and black country with roosters. White cabinets, antique white walls and countertops. Red curtains with black paneling in dining room half-way up.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I like writing notecards - thank yous to my clients, happy birthday cards to them, etc. I've started using stamps some to make my own cards and making my own monogrammed cards at work (at a print shop). I usually use a ballpoint pen just because that's what's lying around.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand? I have a definate sweet tooth, but not toooo sweet as I am hypoglycemic (doesn't work well with the sweet tooth, I know!) and I do like milk chocolate but not dark. No food allergies, not a big fan of cherries.
This is so exciting!:()

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen has a lot of garnet/plum type colors as well as silvery/gray green on the trim and in the back of the shelves. I also have little splashes of blue (shades) and some yellow that I put out in the spring/summer. The style is mostly country/cottage/vintage. No special motif, though I do have a few farm animal and vintage type tin ads.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I love note cards and use them a lot. I prefer fine-tipped pens.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand I will eat almost anything(except brussel sprouts!)~not hard to please in the food area at all!

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? I would say we're mainly vintage cottage. Stuff you'd find in a 30's kitchen but we also have a French country thing going too. My walls are creamy yellow, trim is white. My accent colors are blue (like the color here) and copper but my drawer pulls and bin pulls are chrome. Confusing huh? I am collecting crotcheted hot pads, the ones I really want in particular are the type that look like clothing (underwear, dresses, etc) and I have few appliqued tea towels I've got displayed.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I would have to plead the 5th on this one. I intend to write but rarely do it by hand. I do love pretty sheets of writing paper and use a fine ballpoint on ocassion.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
I love sweet and salty, sweet and sour. I too don't like chocolate covered fruits, especially cherries. :p I am allergic to peanuts and soy so that really does limit the chocolate factor. :{

Apologies for the delay...my friend/coworker was seriously injured in a backcountry skiing accident on Saturday. I was one of the rescuers, and have been too exhausted and upset to turn on the computer. We got her out, and she's going to be OK, but has a long recovery ahead. Please send good thoughts to Mikki--she's really hurting right now.
Here is the swap list, and because we have an odd number, you will be sending your swap to a different person than you receive from.

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen walls are an olive/sage green and I have antiqued cream cabinets - no motif other than that. I'd say my style is simplistic rustic (maybe Pottery Barnish for lack of a more creative definition). All my dishes are a combination of that green with a not super bold royal blue and some cream.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I love writing notes on creative and/or handmade cards. My sister is realllly good at making them (so my swap partner just may be getting some:() ) and she's given me a bunch over the years with all different kinds of themes. I love roller ball pens because they have such great dark ink.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand? My two snacky downfalls are popcorn (butter or cheesy) and peanut butter (not together though!) I can pretty much eat those two things in any form. yum. no allergies.
so excited for my 2nd official CL swap :)

Thank you all for your support. I really believe in the power of positive thoughts and prayers focused in one direction--I'm convinced it's a potent force for healing.
I'm pretty much recovered from the experience. It's horrible to see someone you love in terrible pain, but we were all determined to get her out. My crew is a group of incredibly skilled outdoorspeople and we work together without thinking about it. It's like family, so there was no way we were going to let Mikki suffer any more than she had to. She is very brave. We all had to overcome some fear. I spent the day on a snowmobile right at the edge of my ability--that's what was so exhausting for me. Plus the weather was bad. Anyway, Mik is being evaluated for surgery today--two ligaments in her knee blown out, and part of the tibia broken. We'll be there for her as she recovers. There will be lots of time out at her house watching movies, driving her around, talking her out of feeling depressed. Love and friendship is about being in it for the long haul.
Thanks again for all your good wishes. It means a lot.

Deb, did you ever think that you may have trained and worked your whole life for a reason?....and the reason was to help your friend when she needed it. I believe in that. Kind of a repeat from the intro thread, but I'm a mom to three kids, a middle school writing teacher, and wife to a middle school principal. Our home is new, but I'm doing my bet to make it look like it's been here forever!
Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to running into you around here!

Memmey, you're right. Training and experience is what we fall back on in times of stress. And one of life's lessons that we all have to keep learning is how to accept help gracefully--it's so easy to give help. Mikki helped me after my divorce, and brought me the Henry cat. Now I get to give back, which is hard for her, but she's in no position to protest! I made a funny card for her yesterday.
This drama has sidetracked us from the topic of the swap. Gigi, remind me about your kitchen colors?
My kitchen is small, off-white and pale spruce green. There are touches of yellow and red, with 1960s folk art accents and vintage canisters.
I love to hand write on anything--I collect notecards and stationery. I like art history and nature themes. Also stamps and travel. My favorite writing implements are fountain pens and drawing pens.
Dark chocolate is a precious substance that I carefully ration. My dairy intake is limited to a little bit of butter and I avoid most processed sugar. Crunchy nuts are good, and dried fruits. Don't like licorice.

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen walls are a light beige-ish yellow color with a little sage green tossed in there in the form of rugs, ceramic pots and plants. I have white bead board on the walls and chrome hardware. I have picture of my kitchen on my blog (http://susiesqs.blogspot.com/2007/11/do-it-yourself.html). I like to think of my kitchen as simple cottage country. Or at least that is the look I would like!
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? Every now and then I'll write notes by hand. Mainly thank you type cards. I love ball point pens, and every now and then I'll write in calligraphy in an old fashioned ink pen that you have to dip in ink.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
I like chocolate especially dark chocolate. I like pretzels and popcorn as well. I don't like hard candy. And anything with fake cinnamon flavoring (red hots, cinnamon gum) makes my tongue swell. Weird, I know.

I've been a bit distracted but received a nice reminder note from Gigi....
What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art? My kitchen/dining area/craft space are all in one fairly large, long room. It is sort of a cottage/contemporary mix...the walls are light lemon yellow, cabinets are light pine, floors a light cherry...I have a dark oriental rug under the dining room table and bamboo shades in the windows which are tall and long on the east side and low due to a dormer on the south side, making it a great space for cats to bask in the sun. Most of my accents are vintage - lots of family items - and lots of green.
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil? I love handwriting supplies of all kinds, esp notecards and postcards and writing instruments...my handwriting is a bit eccentric (also bad) so I find instruments that give a bold line - roller balls, felt pens, fountain pens - make it a bit easier to read...I esp. like colors other than black and blue, purple is my favorite ink, but green is wonderful too.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
Unfortunately, I love almost everything! I adore chocolate, salty, spicy, peppery...off hand the only food I can think of that I don't like is canned green beans!
Hi to everyone, hope some of you are experiencing the awakening of spring where you live. Here in Vermont we are having a sunny day in between ice storms (!)...I prayed this morning that my sense of humor about this would be restored, so I think I should do my part and get out in the sun for while as it makes a rare appearance.

Poor Chapter Two, I know I was less than helpful in my answer on the treat thing. However here's an idea, I love S & M's. I love saying it too. You mix Skittles with M&M's, I like a ratio of two M's to one Skittle.
Something weird that a kid at college introduced me to and they are so very tasty! Oh and the new chocolate Skittles that just came out, umm. I'm not impressed. :( I'm also aware that there is soy in M&M's, long as I don't over do it I'm ok. :D

What are the colors/patterns in your kitchen? Is the style country, contemporary, vintage? Is there a particular motif, such as flowers, chickens, folk art?
My kitchen is dominantly white. I live in a very old apartment with a 1950's retro feel to it right now. I have this funky stainless-steel in-laid counter-tip. Other than that ... there is just a lot of white paint. My curtains, Kitchen-Aid Mixer, and distressed wooden spice cabinet are all varying shades of blue. My everyday dishes are white with cobalt edging. I have some rather eclectic dish-towels (but they are getting kind of grimy). I always hang a "prettier" dish-towel on my spice rack. I believe I am supposed to put paper-towels here, but they look tacky. So, anything that would go with distressed turquoise would have an immediate home! I also actualy have a lot of little blue containers in my large kitchen window with different herbs and plants. So, little cheap planting containers also have a definite home in my kitchen!
Do you write letters or notes by hand? Do you like notecards, postcards, sheets of paper? Do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball, felt pen, fountain pen, No. 2 pencil?
I love stationery, notecards, etc. - - you really can't go wrong with this one. So, have fun searching, seeking, and scrounging. I tend to shy away from girly-frilly and lean more toward artsy, but I will love and use anything. I like colored-pencils - - I'm serious. I also LOVE green pens. They are getting harder to find. I write a lot in green ink. The gel pens are nice, but a little shiny ... they discontinued the ones I loved ... but, I love green ink.
What are your favorite tastes and textures? Sweet tooth? Salty crunchy? Chocolate, spicy, fruity? Any food allergies or things you just can't stand?
Did someone say chocolate? Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. In all seriousness, I do have a sweet tooth and I really love ice cream (but that would be hard to mail -- and dangerous for my hips - - but any sweet cookies or treats would be greatly appreciated)!
- - Thanks for the great questions Deb!

I haven't forgotten either, ladies! I was just telling SusieQ my computer had died and I'm working off a loaner which is confusing (a laptop with really small keys and one of those weird built in mouses... mice...?).
So I apologize that I, too, am a little behind but playing catchup now with some fun ideas...
I'm at least glad to see it's not only ME that's running late. It's been a rough time of year this year for some reason.

memmey I don't want a swap break because this is my first one!! my problem with this one is that there's something i need to go get from a certain store, but I don't ever have a vehicle with me when I'm in town (DH always has it).

I'm running behind too. Had big plans but looks like I'm going to have to change my original plans. I also need to head over to a couple of stores to get my other two good ideas. Ugh! Rosemary I haven't forgotten you. Should be in the mail by this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed, I know I am. :o

Hello gang - - thank goodness I am not the only crazily busy person this week. I only have half of my swap package together. I am just stumped for one part. Anyone who has ever swapped with me knows I get on this kick where I just really REALLY want to find the right thing. This is a big deal to me. So, I have like this one super-perfect-thing ... then, I can't find anything else acceptable in my mind's eye.
I'm hurrying ... I promise ... (but it will probably be this weekend ... work sort of went crazy this week ... I think we all forgive each other don't you?) Talk to all of you soon ... Me

I'm the same way, I want to get the perfect package together here and as usual have over reached myself again. Unfortunately this is my first swap so hopefully I'll mellow out on the next one. :()

I must be riding in the same boat with all of you. Mine will be leaving tommorrow in the mail. This has been a crazy week in the mix of preparing for a baby shower Sat for 50+ people. Work has been crazy. I coordinate a program called Operation Safe Stop to make the public aware of motorists passing stopped school buses, with police following the buses. We had our press conference on Wednesday. Been behind on all the happenings. Will catch up soon. Memmey, Please don't have a swap break, I've had fun doing this. Thanks for letting me be involved!:D

Me too...I just couldn't put in the time it deserves before I went to Boise for the week. But now I'm back, and can pay proper attention. There will be a trip to the post office on Monday.

Oh, I'm glad you like it! I had a lot of fun putting that together! And yes, floursack towels are the best! I love them! I have a lot that my great-grandmother embroidered. They are near and dear to my heart!

I am just jotting a quick post because I must ... I received the most dear package yesterday after a VERY long day at work. I haven't even logged-on in about a week to the CL site and I have been thinking about all of you. I have some exciting job stuff happening, but I am also REALLY scarily busy. Anyway, along with some home-made chocolate chip cookies, I received a home-made sewn all-on-her-own table runner. I also got this really beautiful stationery - - green with roses. I am just going to have to take pictures. Anyway, I am touched and I am flattered. That is all I can say. Thank you Autumn! (aka WannaBHomemaker)
Seriously, this package has my favorite color pens and notecards and it was so carefully wrapped with precious twine. So, so, so thoughtful ... (I am gushing through the computer screen) ... these swaps always manage to arrive when they are so desperately needed don't they?
Every best wish to those in CL land ... Ladybug ... I did not forget you ... I promise!
Bye all,
Jenny

I am so glad you liked your package Jenny! Were the cookies melted? I was worried about that! I'm glad it made it there with good timing!
My swap arrived today from jwilsie, so hearing that you're so happy with yours makes me double-happy!! :D:D I'm posting the pic and description of my swap in "Spring Swap Pics"!
