I am wondering if anyone has had good luck using warm colors like golden yellow, red and green in their living room and dinning room and then in the kitchen using cool colors like robin's egg blue and black and white. I really think I would like to paint my kitchen walls in the robin's egg blue but the rest of my house is in really warm colors.

If I change the kitchen walls, I think I would have to change the rest of the house and I just can't do that right now. No moolah!! :(
Any thoughts on this idea?

For those of you haven't seen my kitchen it is under House proud (TA DA I have finished my kitchen) My kitchen is black and white and the walls are kind of a beigey yellow right now.

Thanks for any input.

Gee, I really don't know. I've got mustard yellow walls in my living room and dining room, my kitchen and hallway are sage... I've thought about introducing a cool color, but I always run into the same trouble that you're having.

One school of thought is "If it makes you happy and YOU like it, go for it". Which is a fine way of thinking. You could find an area rug or curtains that have all three colors in it and which would make a visual link.

But you sound like me... if it isn't just right, it's gonna make you nuts.

It will drive me crazy. It does not bother mother-nature (all the colors of the rainbow all together and it looks beautiful outside) but for some reason I can't do that in my own home.

I guess some people just know when they walk into a room and whether or not if feels right and others walk in and never notice a thing. Isn't that funny? I wonder why that is?

So true! I'm a really rotten artist because I'm not good at noticing fine details and putting them in a picture. BUT, I can look at a room and instantly make it better. I guess that's why we're hooked on magazines like this.

How about painting a large piece of poster board (or several) Robin's egg blue and hanging it in your kitchen? Live with it for a few days in several different locations around the room and see what you think.

i wouldnt try it if you can see into one room from another..i like to feel its all related ...and flows with different accents of the same tune....
.most of our house is a light beigy gold with white woodwork and molding ...but the tv room is deep dark red., which is nice at night ..but you cant see it from anywhere else...

Yea, you can see into the dinning room and it is painted golden yellow with slipcovered chairs that are deep red with grapes, pineapples and plums in the print.
There is some blue in the fabric just not robin's egg blue. I will have to ponder this some more. If anyone see's a picture of a home in any magazine that deals with this dilemma let me know. Thanks.

My philosophy with paint is go ahead and paint it-it's only paint and a little elbow grease. If you don't like it, paint it another color. I don't think you'll know if it works until you get the whole room painted and see how it looks. It may be fine too if you can find some accessories, like a nice big bowl, that has the blue and some warm colors or the colors that are in the adjacent rooms in it and that will tie the whole thing together and relate to the other rooms.

I have been trying to find something that uses warm and cool colors together and as I was reading the threads on this web site I came across a website that the administrator suggested we all look at it is called www.maincottage.com and under the tool bar where it says shop...there is a section for their rugs and TA DA !! there it was a rug with Red, Orange, Yellow and robin's egg blue!! It looks fabulous together. Check it out. Really cute and fun furniture. I love painting furniture different colors. K

I really do want to paint my kitchen soon. My daughter is graduating from High School in June and the whole family is coming so I want to have it done before then. I am also having a bridal luncheon for one of my friends daughters in July...so I want to have my yard all prettied up too! Ahh So much to do so little time and money. But think of the fun right?! :o :D

I will post pictures as soon as I get motivated to start this project. Hey do you think CL would like to do a story on my kitchen transformation and come and paint it for me!! HA HA :p

I love it! It's adorable, Karin! So, when do you start?

For some reason I'm thinking CL prefers befores and afters instead of durings, so it sounds like a paint party to me, Karin. If it makes you feel any better, though, I'll be painting my kitchen while you're painting yours. :D And my cabinets haven't been done yet.
