Hi! Has anyone had experience with Home Exchange for vacations and travel? I'm interested in doing this and I'm just in the research phase. I found one web site www.HomeExchange.com (http://www.HomeExchange.com) that was in the movie "The Holiday". :)

I don't know anything about it, but I LOVE the movie The Holiday. It's one of my all-time favorites...right up there with Sabrina and While You Were Sleeping. :D Hope you find the info you need! It's sounds like a great idea, just don't know if I'd have the guts to let someone live in my house while I'm not here.

I used to know a couple that did this - with mixed results. None too bad but one house they had to take care of pets - a dog and a cat. They were concerned with being away on a day trip and the dog not getting out enough. But they loved the house (they were in Ireland) and the area so they didn't venture too far.

They knew there were animals and didn't mind that but they hadn't actually thought about the dog having to be let out on a regular basis - they don't live with animals. So they said that was a learning experience. For the most part, they enjoyed doing this and really never had any problems with people who ended staying in their apartment (they were in NYC at the time).

I asked them about doing this and they said just to make sure you ask lots of questions about the home you'll be in - especially if going to Europe. Most of us are used to plenty of rooms and they can pretty small and "comfy" in European homes.

We stay in a lot of b&b's when we go and personally have found that what the room costs has little to do with what you get. We were in Ireland 2 years ago and the best room we had - spacious, clean, beautiful - was the LEAST expensive on our trip. The worst - the most expensive - and it was so tiny the bed was shoved against the wall - I had to climb over my husband to get to bed. And it was about 50 degrees in the bedroom - he slept with his hat on!!!

Thank you for your reply...a pet situation was something I did n't think about! I'm looking to travel in the USA to start out. My house still needs a little more work before I would offer it. I think I have a great place to offer...if someone wants to experience small town America. I live in Amish Country and buggies go by my house every day. Fine dining, pizza, and chinese food are within walking distance. Philadelphia,Lancaster,Reading outlet stores and a rich local history are all day trips...within a 50 mile radius. I think I just wrote my ad for the Home Exchange! :)
