New Year, New Swap

It's that time . . . swap time! For those of you who have not participated before here are the "rules"

- Don't spend more than $10 on your swap (not including postage)
- NOTHING is too silly or too inexpensive to send, this is about being creative and having fun. NO pressure!!!!
- if you get a swap partner you have had before, let me know and we'll mix it up. We ought to keep a list so we can avoid doing that!

Here is this winter's swap - Warm Winter Thoughts
What makes winter more tolerable for you? What warms your soul and heart in January? Send your partner something that means "warmth" to you - get creative.

Also, we had a thread on crock pot meals so include a recipe or two for a crock pot meal or dessert. And if you send me a copy of the recipe, I will put them all in a booklet for each of you.

I will give you through next Monday (1/7) to sign up. Then I will hook you up with a partner. Swaps should go out by the 28th so you get your package by the first week of February.

foreign exchange to help fend off the global credit crunch, with its central bank announcing expanded currency swap agreements with Japan and China.
The move should further alleviate concerns about South Korea's banks,

difficulty obtaining dollars the global credit crisis.
The South Korean and Japanese central banks increased a bilateral swap facility to the equivalent of $20 billion, the Bank of Korea said in statement. The bank also announced a deal with the People's Bank of China worth about $26 billion.
Combined with existing agreements with those central banks as well as one with the U.S. Federal Reserve, South Korea now has access to the equivalent of about $90 billion, almost half of South Korea's current foreign currency reserves.
Swaps generally entail one central bank borrowing a currency from another and offering an equivalent amount of its own as collateral.
President Lee Myung-bak and other officials have said Seoul's cache of $200.51 billion in foreign exchange reserves, the world's sixth-largest, is enough to ensure no repeat of the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis that forced the country to seek a $58 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
Still, Seoul has pursued new agreements to shore up the reserves, which have steadily declined this year as the country used them to pump liquidity into the financial system and defend the won, which has fallen sharply against the dollar.
The agreements with the East Asian central banks came a day before the leaders of South Korea, Japan and China were to meet in Fukuoka to discuss the global financial turmoil and other issues.
The expanded currency swaps have been under discussion for weeks.
The Bank of Korea said the won-yen agreement with Japan expanded an existing deal that was worth about $3 billion. The increase will be effective through the end of April next year, the BOK said.
The central banks also have another won-dollar swap worth $10 billion.
