How many cottage magazines are there, and where do you find them? I have found a couple of issues of one called Cottage Style, but can't find it all the time.
I buy most of my magazine at either Walmart of Booksamillion, and both places seem to be hit and miss in the cottage magazine dept.

That is a loaded question since alot of publications will do that cottage issue once a year. I only know of the two Cottage Living and then the Cottage Style. Maybe someone else would have an idea. To me Mary Englebrecht's magazine would count as cottage but not strictly so. ;)

I like Mary Engelbreit style, but think that some of it is almost too cutsey to use in a real house to live in.
I haven't ever seen Cottage Living. I love Cottage Style. I would love to find more issues of it. Just looked on ebay, and found some, but somehow $15 for 2 issues is a bit steep!

Do you have a Borders or a Barnes and Noble? Either should carry cottage living. I'm kinda in that cutesy phase of life right now so ME isn't too bad. I do notice that it is starting to look like solid advertising and hard to tell when an article stops and an ad starts. They did a little thing on a cottage in FL of a family who moved down there from MI and I swear it was an ad for ME stuff. I can only imagine that they are close friends of her or they work for her somehow.

I know the article that you're talking about. A few years ago, the magazine featured one of Mary's houses in Florida... I'm assuming these guys are neighbors or something.
I love Mary Englebreit's Home Companion ~ I think of the decorating featured in her magazine as more artistic than cutesy tho' ~ which tells you a little something about my taste in art!
Just got my Country Home today. It's becoming one of my favorites. All the articles had a "green" ~ as in recycling ~ bent to them. Loved it!
If you aren't getting the magazines locally, check with one of your neighborhood schools. A lot of them sell subscriptions as a fund raiser. Not only will you get your favorite magazines at a discount, but you'll support your schools.

ChynaElizabeth is right...a bookstore could be a "candie~shoppe" when looking for cottage favorites. I have a Borders nearby, and I always make it a stop for any holiday shopping! And don't forget to look at the bargain table... :D

Only bookstore I have now is BooksaMillion, since Walden Books went out of business here. And you would think they would carry a wide selection of magazines, right? Nope. All hunting, fishing, cooking (nothing wrong with those), farming and men's/woman's health. And a lot of model and train magazines. They even stopped carrying my dollhouse mags!
They do carry a few like Country Almanac-- which used to be my favorite until the price went up to $7 an issue, and Country Sampler. But it's mainly the magazines I listed above. I have complained and been told that they are going to carry what is popular for this area. Which means I am out of luck.
Walmart carries Home Companion every once in a while, but the past few issues haven't peeked my interest. But since I am doing a ME dollhouse in the future I will probably pick up an issue or 2 at some point.
Thanks for the answers!

What is a ME dollhouse? It's one that is done in the Mary Engelbreit style. All reds, yellows, and black colors, checks for the floors, lots of flowers, bright fabrics, and cherries of course!
Kind of cutsey, but that is the nice thing about dollhouses. You can do styles with them that you wouldn't do in your real house. Hubby would never let me get by with doing our place in that style, so I do it in mini! I'm actually doing 2 houses that way, 1 a little one called 1/4 scale, and 1 a regular dollhouse, in 1-inch scale.

Cheryl, that sounds neat. I've taken small pictures from her magazine and made faux frames with twigs. They made great little wall art for my daughter's doll house.
Will you take some pictures when you're done?

Okays so it's a ME house. I thought it was the same thing as a friend of mine has, and it's adorable... down south she purchased a house that just looks like hers. 3 degree, and the nice thing the inside lights up in the evening. So cute! :D It's not a doll house, but a house that you display without furniture. I suppose adding the doll furniture would be a wonderful touch!

I get my fixes for magazines when I take my friend to the hospital or doctor's office for whatever cosmetic surgery procedure is next on her list.
Plastic surgeon offices are the best for decorating magazines; won't find any fashion or beauty magazines (even the waiting rooms have a page or 10 in the marketing plan), but there's always every flavor of decorating magazine.
My staples are CL, MS Living, Home&Garden, Elle Decor and Interiors (it's an expensive magazine for interior designers). I like Coastal Living, but I don't subscribe -- it's more of a second home oriented pub, so I will pick one up.
I bought a magazine called "Shelter" a few months ago (may be a regional) and it was the weirdest magazine...the articles looked to be totally product driven, but about what products and for what audience I really couldn't tell.
I also root through my sister's and friend's magazine baskets for their castoffs and catalogs -- I love the over-the-top Horchow's -- they have a bunch of tole fixtures I am using for ideas -- and I used to like Rue de France (I think it was a Lillie Vernon company), but I don't think it's available anymore.
And I absolutely adore Blueprint -- it's a new publication, and I can't yet figure it out for myself why I like it so much, but there's a real clean, smart style about it...much like CL, but more of a hands-on DIY approach.

I'm looking right now at a couple of sites that offer magazine subscriptions for lower costs. Someone on another board directed me to them:
http://www.bestdealmagazines.com (http://www.bestdealmagazines.com/)
http://www.mags4cheap.com (http://www.mags4cheap.com)
I haven't used them yet, but she swears by them and said she NEVER pays more than $8 for a subscription.
