I'm planning on making steak, does anyone know any good recipes that doesn't call for it to go on the Barbeque? I"m making bake potatoes and some shrimp scampi and chocolate covered strawberries.

Wow, your meal sounds great! Sorry, I don't know how to cook steak except on the grill. Grilling sounds so nice--maybe in a few weeks we'll be able to do some of it--if winter leaves.

We are having spaghetti--we have it alot, but it is dh favorite meal. We'll have Italian bread with it. I would love to have a salad, but produce is poor quality and expensive in town. I made a lemon pie with cherry topping for dessert. It is supposed to have raspberry topping, but the grocery store in our little town doesn't sell frozen raspberries, LOL. It is the simple recipe--1 can eagle brand, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup lemon juice--bake for 30 min. in graham cracker crust. Top with raspberry (cherry) topping and cool whip or whipped cream. Chill for 4 hours.

Yummmm! I just got back from the store with a tip roast (any suggestions on how to cook it?), two kinds of bakery bread, stuff for twice baked potatoes, artichokes and fruit for our chocolate fondue set that we got for Christmas.

Diet tomorrow!

When Lent starts it's all over but the crying..Sugar withdrawals gives me the worst headache I ever had. my lenten promise shouldn't be about losing weight, it's gonna be about punishing my fat a-- for eating too much all year long. Sorry..so harsh LOL I can't help with too many recipes since my son left the nest I forgot how to cook.

When I was single, my idea of a good dinner was a whole bag of Lays potato chips while I was laying in bed. I can't believe I survived on that junk and actually was a pretty skinny kid (slightly under 100 lbs). God got me back when I was pregnant with my first child. I gained another 100 lbs. He was a 12 lb baby, but I still couldn't justify all that weight I gained! Sad to say I've haven't seen the shy side of 130 in years and it ain't getting better with menopause! Such is life.

Popeyees is good!:D

Geez Lisa...a 12 lb. baby!!!!!! That's amazing.

That lemon pie sounds delish!!! I'll have to whip that up next year. I love spaghetti too but It bothers my DH stomache. My girls love it. I made that on Tues night. My steak came out OK..I think I should of marinated then broiled it. It lacked some kind of taste. I forgot about twice baked potatoes...I love those. I just made plain ol ones with sour cream..that lacked something too. I used the low fat sour cream. I have been on a diet and that's not quite the fattening meal I was dreaming of for Valentines. I did have ONE bon bon. I didn't do my choc dipped strawberries like I usually do. I was running late to help out in my DD class and when I got to the Strawberry stand I forgot they only take cash and I knew I'd be really late if I went to find an ATM....so I left without my beloved strawberries. The only reason I had the one bon bon was because I bought the box at Costco just because I loved the color of the box not the chocolate. I repackaged the candy and gave them to the girls Teachers. Hope everyone had a good Valentines Day and right about now Popeyes is sounding very good to me.

Sorry you weren't satisfied with your steak, Gabrielle. Steak is a hard food to know what to do with other than grill it. I do make fajitas with it sometime, but then it is not really steak, LOL. I do love chocolate dipped strawberries but have never made them. I never think about it when I have strawberries in the house. Maybe, if we put in a strawberry bed I will make them sometime. This was the first time I made the lemon pie and it turned out good. We liked it better than the cream cheese/Eagle brand lemon pie recipe.

Lisa, having babies just changes your body completely, doesn't it? I did lose down and got skinny again after my second baby, but the weight was just too hard to keep off--it's never been the same, since. But the kids are so great that I try not to mind too much!

We had lasagna. I'm not married, but have a significant other--companion and best friend. He's been a bachelor forever, and is learning to cook some new things. He usually eats steamed potatoes and broccoli for supper, smothered in cheese. We made the lasagna together, with sauteed veggies for filling. Went light on the cheese, are trying to watch the fats. Watched Al Gore's movie and ate heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies that I made. Then opened handmade cards. We're not very romantic, would rather be friends and have a good laugh.

Plan for today: eat leftover lasagna and write to Congress about global warming! And do some artwork...

It sounds like your evenings were very romantic! After dinner and the little ones went to bed, our eldest (the 12 pounder) watched LOST with us. Boy, are we addicted. Do you guys watch that show?

Memmey

I would but I have no idea what's happened so far I watch totally confused because I didn't watch it from the beginning.

RoseMary

Yes, we watched it. Such a nice romantic show for Valentines:p We are addicted, too. Hubs says he hopes it only has one more season cause he's tired of it but feels compelled to watch!

Lasagna sounds, good, Deb. Maybe I'll make up a batch this week.

The chicken does not sound too bad either, Mem. I cannot fry chicken to taste like anything. When I was a kid and we would go see my grandma, she would fry chicken for breakfast and make biscuits and gravy to go with it. Yum!

By the way, Memmey, I've been meaning to ask you if you have a good recipe for Dirty Rice that you could share? I usually just buy Zatarains's, but figure that homemade might be better. I just put on a big pot of red beans. Cooking them will help it warm up in here. It's cloudy and snowy outside, right now.

Tonight it's gonna be 28 degrees here and as you can imagine that is freezing with the humidity. It's not dry cold it's damp bone chilling cold. Down here you put a big pot of gumbo on when it's cold like that but I have so many customers tomorrow that I don''t want to start cooking this late. Saturday we are eating crawfish again if we can get them, when it's too cold they go down in the hole and don't come out( don't blame them) My saturday night dinner friends and I have eaten them 3 Saturdays in a row. I hope we eat them this one too...ya'll ever had crawfish??? Want to hear a funny story??? Did you say yes??? OK..LOL Last saturday we ate about 24 pounds of them and as you know you break the head off and peel the tail so you have lots of heads and shells. Well we put them in a bag and my friends that live on some acerage usually take them home to their compost pile, well they didn't come ,my friend Louise was sick . So I bagged them and put them in the ice chest and forgot to put them out for the trash on Monday so Thursday, today I did but you can imagine Saturday thru Thursday (sorta like fish ,really like fish). Well I felt bad about it so I put an envelope and a note on the ice chest with a couple of dollars in it for the trash men...I know I'm cheap. Well I peeked out the window this morning really early when I heard the trash truck to see if they got the envelope and I saw the trash man throw the chest into the truck with the dollars on it and they didn't notice the money sooooooo I went running out the door in my pink house coat yelling at them to wait...WAIT!!!! and told them to get the envelope .So he climbed up in the funky truck for the crumby 2 dollars, not 5 dollars or 6 dollars....2 crumby dollars. Now I'm sure that I am the crazy lady from now on..UGHHHHH it's always something..drama drama drama:D

Oh, Mem, I so wish you had a picture of that! I can just see you running out there in your bathrobe yelling at those men:p .

Roast beef and biscuits tonight. Yesterday was a BANNER day in our household. Hubby's company declared bankruptcy and so he was terminated. As he was trying to tell me this, the phone rang and I was offered a job (not one I really want but a job nonetheless - and it pays well). We were fired and hired within 30 seconds of each other. It will be a big sacrifice for me since we get 1 year for a maternity leave in Canada and I will be giving half of it up (my poor baby). So, because I'm feeling sorry for us, the menu for tonight's pity party is beef and biscuits. :(

So sorry, things worked out that way, Jill. I'm sure things will look up soon. Enjoy your beef and biscuits. And best wishes in your new job.

Thank you for your kind wishes. We are trying to keep our chins up and look at this as an opportunity to maybe try new things. Maybe it's the kick in the pants we've needed.

Chocolate covered strawberries are soooo easy. the trick is wash and DRY them completely...no water in them at all. Melt choc in double boiler make sure nooo water get in there. and when melted dip em and put em on wax paper to harden...yummy.

Why yes I have had Crawdads...my daddy, who is from Arkansas used to get them in a creek right here in Suburbia of Los Angeles. In fact that creek is still there and and everytime I drive by I think of my Dad taking us down there to get crawdads...I did like em. He used to eat all kinds of strange things...Snakes and Frogs and Blueberry syrup ants....yes he was a nut.

Sorry Jill about the job situation but things happen for a reason. If you saw Oprah today she had a lady on there about her getting fired. She wrote a letter thanking him for what he did for her. Bisquets sound good to me...

I did watch Lost from the first few episodes...I kind of got disinterested, I thought I would be more interested since it is filmed where I used to live and I always recognize the locations. It just seemed to drag on. But Greys's Anatomy has me enthralled. But I only got to see the last 10 min last night due to a late Brownie Meeting. I wish I had Tivo..
