The real estage listing for this house said, "Cottage on the Corner, needs TLC but has great possibilities". I bought it this past July and this is my dream home! It was built in 1942 and I hope some soldier got to come back from the war and enjoy it with his family. The house has been well loved, my son-in-law and daughter have been helping me restore it. When we ripped up the carpet in the living room, someone had painted the hardwoods GREEN!
It sits on a corner lot in Arlington Heights, an area in Ft. Worth,
TX that has been noted for established neighborhoods where the homes have stayed historically true and families have bought these smaller homes and renovated them to exact time period.
I love Cottage Living magazine and have so enjoyed reading about everyone's cottages across the country and the United Kingdom lady!
I wish all of these houses could tell us about the families who lived there before us. I have found some clues in mine....the two little handprints in the sidewalk when I trimmed the grass away, one marked Jason, the other Jacob.
Also, I know someone loved to work in my yard, the huge pecan tree, the Magnolia tree and the beautiful St. Augustine grass.
Thanks for your forum.

Finding those handprints must have been an incredible experience! Wouldn't it be great to know the history? One thought that I had when I read that was I wonder if Jason and Jacob remember that their handprints are there and if they ever come back to visit.

Good luck with the restoration of your dream home--and welcome to the forums!

When I was a kid, we lived in an old Victorian house. The foyer had a paneled staircase. My brother and I would push one of the panels and slip pennies down inside. We liked to fantasize that someday someone would find the pennies and wonder why they were back there. Or maybe someone would find them so far in the future, that our pennies would be treasure. :p

Last winter, I took my son back to look at the house, (we were considering buying it). I told him the story about the pennies and he added his two cents worth. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) I love that of all of the pictures that I had in my head about the pennies, none included bring my own son back to them. Life is good. The history of a house is a really neat thing. I bet Jason and Jacob remember the handprints!
