For my rug business, I'll use Ebay for clearing out inventory. I also have found even if I don't sell the rug, listing on Ebay drives people to my website and I have been able to get custom orders without selling the original rug.
I recently found that ebay auction listings get listed high on Google. So I am going to be more careful in my use of descriptive keywords in 2007 so that I get maximum ranking in Google for those words.
The end of year I use Ebay to liquidate rugs. I have been selling my Beach stripe cotton rugs for 40% off in the last week. Since I have to pay taxes on inventory, it is better to sell out even if at a loss, than to keep it and pay taxes, and do inventory, and ... blah, blah. Just move them out.
I am going with a deeper blue and white stripe for next year and having the stripes run the width. I have a survey on my website and lately most responses have been for deeper blues and width running stripes. Ebay is a great way find customers interested in my products even if they don't buy the original product listed.
