We usually have a good old fashioned sit-down dinner but I'm increasingly seeing cooking shows prepare decorated buffets with guests spread out throughout the house, I assume. How will you do it? If you've tried both, which do you like better? and why?

Oh mine will more than likely be in the kitchen unless I get the livingroom rearranged. I collect cloth napkins and tableclothes at garage sales and estate sales so I like to make up a nice table. Just wish I had a dining table instead of the drop side leaf kitchen table I have or the card table. Sometimes I don't care that I don't have a dining room and then other times I sure do wish I had one so I could set out my plates and so forth. I'm even considering taking some of the books down in the library and pulling some of the plates out of the buffet to show off.
Hey if Martha Stewart can have Thanksgiving in her horse barn then I don't think any of us can go wrong. Well to be honest her barn is pretty special, heated floors and so forth. I can just hear my dad if I tried something like that.

We used to do a big turkey or ham on Christmas. But one year we enjoyed the appetizers so much that the next year we just had all kinds of appetizers. Everyone loved them! You could graze all day and some of them were more like a meal entree than an appetizer. So that's what we do now. So much easier.

I like your idea, Chris. If we were having a bit get together at our place this year, I think I would try it. My in-laws built a new house two years ago, so everything is usually at their place. This year we will be going there for New Years Day.
Christmas Day it will be the four of us, plus, maybe my parents. Will probably go ahead and do a 'modified' turkey Thanksgiving type meal--sit down dinner--just a lot less than Thanksgiving day.

We end up doing two Christmas dinners. One at my family's (way big) and then we have dh parents over for a dinner among the 5 of us. Pretty small and low key. Honestly I'd rather do my side's dinner, we all get together eat, visit, play games, eat some more and a good time is had by all.:o His family has pretty much all died off and they will not come with us to my grandparent's house even though they know everyone there. I gave up trying to include them a long time ago.:(
