I recently recieved a set of 12 decorative plates that I would like to display on the wall. I heard you can staple velcro on the wall then glue the backing to the plate and hook on to the velcro and voila, it doesn't show any metal clips that the usual hangers do. Has anyone tried this method? Or, do you have a way of displaying plates without the ugly clips showing?
Thanks,
Teapot & Plate Collector
My first time here so if mistakes are made, I'm sorry.

Hi Teapot & Plate Collector,
Welcome to the CL forums!
I have hung small pictures with velcro, but for plates I would probably not trust the glue/velcro on the plates.
I have used Removable Disc Hangers for Plates - just the plate shows, and you can remove the hangers with hot water.
I found mine at a local hardware store, but here is a web site that carries them. Just scroll down until you see them.

Hope I've helped, and I look forward to hearing your ideas here at the forums!

I use plates on the walls frequently in my home for decoration. It's easy and inexpensive, and shows off my (always growing) vintage Barvarian plate collection and Spode toile. Plates are everywhere - living room, hallway, dining room, kitchen, dressing area and above my bed in my bedroom! I love the versitility.
I have never used the velcro backing - I would be afraid that it wouldn't work as well as plate hangers. Plus, living in Southern California, I have to keep in mind that every once in a while, our walls, as well as our home, shakes a little! (luckily, it's been a long time - knock on wood!) How does the velco stand up over time?

I guess the glue would determine how it would stand up over time...does the glue dry out, or get more tacky over time?
I have used velcro for light objects that I move around frequently - that way there aren't any holes to patch and paint. I haven't used velcro for anything that is more permanent.

I have wooden plate rails in my kitchen for plates. They come in a variety of woods but we got ours at the local lumber store unfinished and finished them to match the woodwork. I like them because I do not have any crown moulding in my house and this kind of moves your eye down a little so you don't notice the lack of crown moulding. Plus I rotate dishes in and out of the rail to go with the seasons.
