What are you all doing this Thanksgiving? We are all going to my sister's in Palm Springs. I'm the oldest of 5 and each one of us will be there with our families. Only one member will be missing and that is my son and his family. They live in Minnesota. They will be so missed! But I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful family. On Thanksgiving Day we will have the big turkey cook-off! My sister Denise cooks her turkey in the oven and my brother in law does his on the barbecue. They have this competition going each year and its really fun. We all vote on the best turkey. I have a great Cranberry Recipe I think I'll post as well. Once you've made this you will be the honored person invited each year honest!

Kristi's Cranberry Sauce

1/2 cup Orange Juice
1/2 cup Tripe Sec
2 cups Sugar
Bring to a boil
Add 1 bag Cranberries
Bring to a boil until berries begin to pop
Add
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 cup Raisin
1/2 cup Dried Cherries
1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts

Serve warm or hot! Delicious!

I double this recipe because our group is pretty big. Bon Appetite!

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

I don't know that we have any real traditions for Thanksgiving. After my grandpa died the usual tradition of switching houses just kinda went to pot. We do all go to my mom and dad's. My grandma brings her "friend" and my husband, me and our daughter show up too. We potluck it, my mom is in charge of the turkey and we bring the ham (since my husband is not a turkey fan). We do try to prepare the ham different, this year it will be this raspberry glaze. That is about it, the big one is Christmas. Maybe we can see if we can lose the dogs in the river again like we tried for Easter. Or maybe we'll go for a walk in the woods and look for some diamond willow for my husband to carve. We're planning on doing the Rocky Mountain Mountainman Rendezvous in July and I think he is going to try to sell some walking sticks. We're just going to do a blanket trader deal so we won't have to bring alot of merchandise.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.:)

I guess our Thanksgiving tradition isn't quite as wholesome as the others. We always go out drinking the night before :D

Nicole,

You must be Irish then! They get to drinking for every occasion! Be careful!

I don't know the Norwegians seem to find any excuse to party. You could say that funerals aren't a staid time for my family, or at least my dad's side of the family. :D Can't even blame the Irish or the Scots for that one since that isn't the side it comes from. then again we vikings did do a little sowing of the oats in Eireland and so forth. :p

I spent the day painting the new board and batten woodwork that I had put in the dining room while my husband cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Isn't that every woman's dream? :D

After dinner, we took the kids to see Happy Feet. Pretty decent movie.

Perfect day. I feel so lucky to have my family. I'm looking forward to the holiday season. Life is good!

My husband, my two kids, my parents and I went and stayed in a house that used to belong to my late Great Aunt Mattie, which sits on my Dad's cousin's Christmas Tree Farm in Grayson County, VA. We tagged our trees for Christmas and convinced my mother to let us order most of our dinner and only cook an extra turkey and some desserts. She usually works herself down to a nub (her sister calls her Martha Stewart on acid!) We kicked back, drank a little whiskey, played cards, watched Rudolph and Christmas Vacation. The highlight of the holiday for me was hiking way back in a holler just over the North Carolina line to the remains of my Great, Great, Great Grandfather's cabin. Way cool. It was the best Thanksgiving in recent memory.
