We are in the process of remodeling our house "cottage style". We wish to buy a piano and would like to find one that would fit with our new cottage decor. Does anyone know where i could find a "cottage style piano"? Thanks!

Just about any kind of piano can be cottage. It just depends how you work it in with the rest of the room. What you want to look for also depends on how you are going to use it (to play for yourself, to play for others or just for looks). If I were shopping for my house and interests, I would recommend looking for something antique. A large upright in a dark finish would be nice. You can find some great refurbished ones at dealers and online. You have to be a little careful with how well they have been maintained though. If they haven’t been cared for or well refurbished they don’t have that great of sound or hold their tune.

I would think of one of those shorter ones too, also an upright. You must play it first though before you even leave the store. My mom bought a lovely blonde piano when I started taking lessons beautiful sound, real smooth like silk. Well my grandpa decided to trade houses with my uncle and we had to come get some stuff from the big house in the trade/move we got one of their pianos. Yes it has memories about it and it goes nicely with my parents rustic look but sounds like Sh*t. Think old timey saloon piano. I quit playing because of that piano! Guess I'm extremely picky about my pianos but something that sounds that bad just isn't worthy for my playing.:o
We used to have one of those big upright pianos when we lived at the ranch. I loved that that. My mom even has a pic of me taking a nap under it, truthfully that is really where I started playing the piano but my mom is the one to teach us a few things.:) Was a sad day when we moved and my mom sold that piano, she did keep the stool. Not sure why but it sits at my parents house and has went with them each time they moved to a new home. :) :) :)

We'v got a small grand in our cottage sunroom. Had a big bookcase built for baskets of musical instruments for the kids. Our next plan is to hang one of the original 1920's kitchen cabinets above the bookcase and put all of our guitars in it. I think it all looks very cottage-esqe and we use this room everyday.
I've seen photos in magazines of upright pianos with old oil paintings where the sheet music should go. I like that look too.

We have DH's grandmother's piano in our living room. It is great to have around, though neither of us play. :)
