This has gone from amusing to darn right annoying. Subs***ute is not a curse word yet here I get subs***ute instead of subst-i-tute. D-i-c-k-ens is not a foul word either. Would it be possible to update the dictionary in the system so we don't have to use "-" between letters in order to type a message?

thanks for looking into this

The worst part is that I used to cuss like a sailor in my high school years and have cleaned it up ALOT. Now I can't even say innocent words without getting *starred*. Not much for a ***alating conversation to be sure. When I get into a ornery mood I'll have to see what it does on real curse words. ****!

Tanya,

I've reworked the curse words filter to be much more exact in its editing.

ie: Dickens is no sustitute for a crass shitake mushroom.

It was kinda cute when we were talking about our little dogs being such little brats and calling them dickens but somehow it isn't so cute when you get starred. And the other post thought I was doing it on purpose. :p

Hey since I got you here. Would it be possible to put a spellcheck button in? Sometimes I can't remember how to spell something and hate looking like I failed English in school. I blame it on the school system. :D

Unfortunately server-side spell checking is a huge drain on bandwidth, thus our software doesn't include that function. The server would have to transfer text from your browser back down to the server, check the spelling, then reload the text in the browser's text field. It would add massive time overhead to the forums. Some of the newest browsers now include what's called client side spell checking where the browser quickly checks spelling. It's great because it works on any and all sites. In the Safari browser, it's under the "edit" menu. Internet Explorer users can download IEspell at http://www.iespell.com It adds a spelling button to your browser. All the newer versions of browser will start shipping with client-side spell checkers because they work like a charm.

I know I've copied words into Word when I have a question about the spelling. It only takes a second. Just an idea.
