Hello to all --

I'm having difficulty deciding how to dress the windows in my gabled carriage house (not so unike a cottage :) ).

Where the sloped roof meets the wall, the wall is just six feet high. The windows themselves are small -- 38" wide x 32" high -- although there are many of them (two per wall, set toward the center of each wall, 20" apart). The windows begin about 1 foot down from where the slope meets the wall. They are slightly recessed into the wall, about 3".

My primary concern is that treatments that would create illusions of height and/or size are going to make the rooms look like the inside of a tent!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Annie

Welcome to the forums, Annie!

Your gabled carriage house sounds enchanting!

If you went with shutters set inside each window, it would accentuate the windows, but not give the illusion of additional height. Have you seen those shutters where you can insert fabric panels? You could use fabric in the panels that matched pillows, a bedspread, a tablecloth - and that would actually draw the eye down.

What do you think?

Annie,

Could you shoot a digital photo and post a small version here on the forums? Seeing the problem would certainly help visualize a solution.

Hi Annie:

I had similar windows in a rental. I bought an extra sheet to match my bedding and made roman shades. I really liked the look, but I love Zuzu's suggestion even more. I think shutters with fabric panels would be darling in your carriage house! Wish I'd been creative enough to think of that when I was renting.
