Hi everybody,

I'm so glad to have found a site like this, I love the cottage look and am striving to one day make our home acquire this look. A little about me, my name is Dawn, my screen names comes from my daughter, Rosie. I have four children and have been married to my husband for 15 years.

We bought our current home a year a half ago, and I swear we opened Pandora's box the minute those keys went into our hands. We have a 1925 four square here in lovely, (but cold) Ohio. Our house is a total redo, meaning that absolutely everything needs to be refinished. We gutted our sons bedroom and rewalled it and now we are stripping all of the doors of their paint. (Only to be repainted:))

I am also in the process of stripping a beautiful bedroom suite given to me for my daughters. I plan on painting it after all five pieces are stripped. Obviously I am up to my eyeballs in stripping and painting right now.

Can't wait to accomplish some of these projects, talk about them and make some friends along the way. As soon as I figure it out, I'll post some pictures of (me) and what in the world I'm talking about, till then.. :)

Hi there.
I'm KUMI from Japan.
I live with my husband and a daughter of 2 yrs old in an ancient town,
Kamakura, near Yokohama and Tokyo.
I work at a German firm in Tokyo full time.
We bought our house three years ago and
we're trying to refurbish in our own.
Since we both works, the work is really slow,
but we do enjoy it a lot!!
I'd love to exchange ideas and opinions with people
who enjoy the same.
I'm so excited to make new friends here :)

Welcome Kumi!

My son and daughter-in-law live in Yokohama - not so far from you! I look forward to sharing ideas with you.

Welcome! It would be very interesting to hear about your house in Japan. I lived in Ishikawa, Okinowa when I was a teenager and have visited Japan. I love some of the different household items that I saw while I was there. What is the table with the heating element in it called? I've been wanting to get one for my damp Pacific Northwest home.

Hi, Zuzu.
What an interesting name!
So your son and his family live in Yokohama?
Yes, that's my neighbor town.
Have you ever visited there?
Lovely place to enjoy!

Hi Lisa. S.
You've lived in Okinawa?
That's our favorite hoilday place in Japan!
Beautirul beaches and yammy food.
We LOVE there!!
The thing you mentioned is "kotatsu".
Unfortunately, I've never owned it before as
my parents don't like it nor my husband does.
"Kotatsu" must be one of the most popular furniture(?)
in winter in Japan!!
It's really interesting you know it!!

Hi Kumi,

No, I've never visited Japan. My son and his wife were married here last year, and moved to Japan to live near her mother and grandfather last July. I am glad there is email, or I'd miss them too much!

Write to us and tell us about the home projects you and your husband have been working on.

Here in Japan it's very cold even though there's no snow.

I see.
Your son got married with a Japanese woman from Yokohama.
You should visit them one day.
Yokohama is a very unique city.

Now my husband and I are working on a small project,
installing shelves in my closet.
It's not a fancy thing, but very convenient and practical.
I should put a photo here, huh?
I'll do so after this coming weekends!

Ciao!

Welcome, Rosiesmama and Kumi! Glad you are here. Please share your projects. I'm always involved in a project of some sort and I love hearing about what others are working on and how their projects are progressing.
