Hello New Friends,
I just joined your group and I'm excited to get to know all the folks who post here. I have a small beach cottage. It was built in 1952 so we kind of updated it and dressed it up in the Craftsman style. I will post some pictures soon. Thanks for a great place to share idea's.

Welcome to the board. I think that is the best thing about cottages, you can go in whatever direction you'd like. And since Craftsman is pretty generic and encompasses so many things it is a good match for a cottage.:)
did that make any sense to you?;) I also post on American Bungalow and that is pretty much the theme A & C but alot of it looks pretty cottage-y to me.
tanya:p in the bungled bungalow cottage house with the Wizard of Oz second story addition. sigh

Thanks Chyna,
Nice to meet you. Hey I have a connection to Montana.........my oldest son graduated from Montana State University. Everytime we visited Bozeman we loved it. He's married with kids now and lives in Minnesota. Way far from Cali!

Pacificstar ~ I see you're posting from San Clemente. I lived there for a few years as a kid. Went to middle school on Camp Pendleton, but high school was at San Clemente High (Go Titans!). Loved body surfing at San Onofre. Beautiful town!

My little brother went to MSU. He really loved Bozeman but now lives in Seattle. It is a neat little town (well not so little anymore), I swear everytime I go through that town it is raining or snowing. Others have told me that it isn't like that all the time. It has to be me. LOL

Portland and Seattle are very much the same ~ Just like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. When it is good, it is very, very good. When it is bad it is drippy!
I'm heading out to work in my garden now before it reaches 100 degrees around noon. :o

I was actually talking about Bozeman but you know now that you mentioned it Tate likes Seattle too so maybe he's into rainy places. He swears the rainy season isn't so bad in Seattle too. Not sure if I believe him.

Don't believe him. We just get immune to it. Until April and then everyone complains about the rain. It's green and beautiful here though. And the summers are a dream!

My youngest son graduated from Seattle Pacific University so we went to Seattle allot too! Andrew my son called us the first year at college and said "the sun rises and sets but he doesn't know where it goes during the day". I really need a Seattle fix right now all the wonderful seafood restaurants and speaking about cottage living, check out Queen Anne area.

So have they thought about having a chat room here along with the forum?
I was also wondering did you all get this month issue of Cottage Living? My son told me it had some info about Cottage's and a number of them on the small lot. Or was it last month's issue? I'm really interested in this. In one of the first Cottage Living magazine's they had an article about a group in WA state that was building like 6-8 in an area kinda like a condo concept. I would love to get a piece of property and build some. I think more people are thinking smaller square feet. Young couple's, empty-nesters, single people. Just wanted to know if someone could tell me what issue. Thanks!

I live in a suburb of Portland called Milwaukie.
Milwaukie was founded at the turn of the century, by Portland folks who wanted to build second homes by the river. The original cottages of Milwaukie are really unique. I've seen Hanzel and Gretel type cottages, Arts and Craft style homes... really neat stuff.
Unfortunately, as the years went on, two major roads on the north and south sides of our town became endless strip malls. The quaint cottages became surrounded with inexpensive, poorly built houses.
But Milwaukie is finally coming back around. The downtown area is built very close to the Willamette river. In fact, we're right across the river from First Addition which was mentioned in Cottage Living's latest issue. Old store fronts are being rebuilt and new "old style" stores are replacing the stuff that was too ugly to make pretty. New life is being blown into our town and it feels sweet. I, of course, am doing my part by renovating our 1920's cottage. ;) I'm throwing around the idea of opening a cottage style store... It's fun to be involved in the resurrection!

I lived in Seattle for a few months. The Queen Anne district is mouth watering, but the prices slam reality back to you in a hurry! :(
Here are some cool links for small houses. I'm sure they were on this forum about a year ago, but there worth repeating. The first link is for the cottage community in Washington.

Lisa,
Thanks for those sites. I love the Cottage Company, that was the article I was thinking about. When we were in Maine last year we saw a cluster of homes similar and they featured them in Coastal Living magazine. I would love to do that here in California but the land prices are so high. Neat idea.

When we became foster parents 7 years ago and bought the movie Babe for the kids... I just fell in love with Maaa Then we moved out to the country and some people down the road had a hobby flock and I would take the girls down there to see the sheep... I just love sheep.
